Award-winning actor-producer Tom Hanks, ballerina Patricia McBride, recording artists Al Green and Sting are also among the honorees.

The Kennedy Center chose five extraordinarily gifted artists who have "spent their lives elevating the cultural vibrancy of our nation and the world," the organization's chairman David M. Rubenstein said.

"Lily Tomlin has made us laugh and continues to amaze us with her acting talent and quick wit,” he continued.

Prior to the event, the President and Mrs. Obama will receive the five honorees, along with other Kennedy Center dignitaries, at the White House. A dinner dance in the Grand Foyer will follow the performance.
