One of Hollywood’s most respected actors, Primetime Emmy Award-winner André Braugher finds he is able to cross over from television to film to theatre with ease.

Braugher — who won an Emmy® Award for Outstanding Performance by a Lead Actor in a Mini-Series for his starring role in FX mini-series Thief — stars with Andy Sandberg in the new Fox comedy Brooklyn Nine Nine.

One of Hollywood’s most respected actors, Primetime Emmy Award-winner André Braugher finds he is able to cross over from television to film to theatre with ease.

Braugher — who won an Emmy® Award for Outstanding Performance by a Lead Actor in a Mini-Series for his starring role in FX mini-series Thief — stars with Andy Sandberg in the new Fox comedy Brooklyn Nine Nine.

He portrayed Marcus Chaplin, captain of the Colorado submarine, on ABC drama Last Resort. Prior to that, he starred on the TNT series Men of a Certain Age alongside Ray Romano and Scott Bakula. 

Braugher also co-starred in the feature film Baytown Outlaws in 2012 and Salt (2010) opposite Angelina Jolie. Prior to those movies, he co-starred in Passengers in 2008 opposite Anne Hathaway; in the 2007 Frank Darabont film The Mist, based on the novel by Stephen King; and in Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, also 2007.

He also starred in the sci-fi mini-series The Andromeda Strain, alongside Benjamin Bratt and Eric McCormack for A&E and in the TNT original mini-series Salem’s Lot, based on the best-selling novel by Stephen King.

Among other prominent roles across a variety of productions. Braugher served as executive producer for Robert Townsend-directed Showtime original film 10,000 Black Men Named George, in which he starred as A. Philip Randolph, alongside Charles Dutton and Mario Van Peebles. 

He made his directorial debut in 1999 with one vignette of the Showtime trilogy Love Songs, in which he also starred.

Braugher — who began his television career as the late Telly Savalas’ sidekick in television movies based on the original Kojak series — garnered breakout success with his portrayal of Det. Frank Pembleton on the NBC series Homicide: Life on the Street for 6 seasons beginning in 1992. Fans also recognize him as Dr. Ben Gideon of ABC drama series Gideon’s Crossing (2000-2001).

The celebrated Chicago native earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Stanford University and an Masters in Fine Arts from Juilliard.
